Manuel C. Parreira

–

Chelmsford, MA

Manuel C. Parreira, age 86, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Sunday, November 5, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Ferreira) Parreira with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.

He was born in Terceira, Azores on August 11, 1937 and was the son of the late Manuel N. Parreira and Rita Romeiro doCouto.

He was a self-taught painter with a keen interest in Christian mystical symbols and deities. His participation in the detailing of the Agualva church ceiling in his hometown, is a great display of his ability as a painter. He would work for hours in his studio painting statuette models to deliver to local parishes throughout Terceira. Mr. Parreira gathered a great reputation for his skills at rendering three-dimensional realist statues.

After immigrating with his family to the US, he mainly worked as a machinist at several commercial factories outfitting parts for various industrial tools. He continued to paint as a hobby and occasionally as a means to support his family. He played soccer in his youth as a goalie, was an avid supporter of the Sporting CP Lisbon team as well as the Portugal national team. Mr. and Mrs. Parreira remained loyal to their homeland splitting time between their beautiful homes in Terceira and Chelmsford, creating timeless memories with their beloved children and grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Manuel is survived by his dedicated children Rui, Frank, Paul and Jorge, their spouses Nahid, Jennifer, Molly, Jessica, and his grandchildren Elias, Eliana, Margaret, Zed, Nathaniel and Joseph.
