Mary Claire Mooney

Mary Claire (Bannan) Mooney, age 97, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at Sunny Acres Nursing Home on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Paul Edward Mooney with whom she enjoyed 25 years of marriage until his passing in 1977.

Mary was born in Medford, Massachusetts, on August 21, 1929, to George and Alice (MacDonald) Bannan.

She was raised in Waltham, Massachusetts, and lived a life filled with love, kindness, and devotion to her family. Mary met her beloved husband, Paul, at Hampton Beach. They shared 25 wonderful years of marriage, and Hampton Beach remained a special place in Mary's heart throughout her life.

Mary worked for many years at Windsor Button in Burlington before opening her own store in Arlington. She cherished her loyal customers and the generations of families she watched grow up. Mary will be remembered for her kind and caring heart, her love of family, and the many lives she touched throughout her 97 years.

She leaves behind her daughters, Alice and Maureen; her grandchildren, Jason and his wife Susanne, Ryan and his wife Stacey, and Brandon; and her six great-grandchildren, Alex, Chloe, Kayleigh, Ryan Jr., Callan, and Evan. Mary will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Memorial donations may be made in Mary’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 5 pm to 7 pm at the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 9am at St Mary Parish, 25 North Road, Chelmsford. KINDLY MEET AT THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
