Mary A Palmer Obituary (1922 - 2018) - Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Mary A. (Fitzgerald) Palmer, 95 of Chelmsford, formerly of Woburn, January 2, 2018. Beloved wife of the late James J. Palmer. Mary was born September 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Edward J. and Mary (Sweeney) Fitzgerald and raised in Cambridge. Mary attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin and graduated from Fisher Junior College. She was an executive assistant to the president of Brunswick Corporation. These early years at Brunswick undoubtedly contributed to her love of bowling! Mary had wonderful memories of growing up in Cambridge and loved her vacations to a working farm in Henneker, New Hampshire. For a city girl she loved horseback riding, skiing, and traveling. She particularly loved skiing up north with her brother Ed. Mary took time off to raise her family in Woburn and returned to work in the special education department in the Woburn Public School System retiring at the age of 72. Mary was a voracious reader, always with a book in hand. She instilled the love of reading to all her children. She adored animals and traveling with friends and family. Of all her loves, her family came first. Mary was a devoted mother and proud grandmother. She is survived by her son, John and Colleen of Wakefield, daughter Jean Cusson and Michael of Chelmsford, daughter Elaine Rankowitz and Andrew of Westport, CT and Tracy Bradshaw and Peter of Longmeadow, grandchildren; Christopher Cusson and Aimee Cusson of Chelmsford, James Palmer and his wife Ali of Lynnfield, Madeline Rankowitz of NYC, Brendan Rankowitz of NYC, Peter Rankowitz of Chicago, Mary Carter Bradshaw and Owen Bradshaw of Longmeadow, a sister Jean OConnell of Woburn, and sister-in-law Madeline Fitzgerald Contegni of Ridgefield, CT. Mary is also survived and treasured by her many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edward Fitzgerald of Ridgefield, CT and the late Eileen Siebert of York, ME. No doubt Marys indomitable spirit, love of life, social nature and sharp wit contributed to the longevity of her life. She simply never gave up. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 3 to 6 pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 o'clock at St. Barbara Parish, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn. KINDLY MEET AT THE CHURCH. Due to the severe winter weather, interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn WILL TAKE PLACE AT A LATER DATE.
