Nguyen Thai Pho

–

Hudson, NH

Our hearts are heavy to share the news of the passing of our beloved husband and father Nguyen Thai Pho, 76, from medical complications after a prolonged illness. He passed away peacefully on July 8, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children in his final moments at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA. He was born in Saigon, Vietnam, on January 26, 1947, to his father, the late Gia Thai Pho, and his mother, the late Minh Thi Nguyen. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Dau Nguyen-Pho, for 40 years and a dedicated father to his four children: Patrick, Diana, Kim, and Daniel.

Nguyen Pho grew up as one of eight children in Saigon, which is now known as Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City. As a young man, he demonstrated an interest in drawing and architecture. He also helped design the campaign logo used by his father, who served as a representative and later chairman of the 4th District to the Saigon City Council.

Nguyen Pho was trained as a naval officer at Nha Trang with the De Nhi Thien Xung Khoa 19, class of 1968-1970.

On April 30, 1975, when South Vietnam fell to the Communist forces, Nguyen was in the city with his parents and family and got in one of the emergency airlifts to Guam. Later, Nguyen arrived as a refugee to the United States and began a new life. He eventually learned English and got his degree in electrical engineering. Nguyen met his wife Dau at a friends house party and after a whirlwind courtship, they married in 1983 in Lowell, MA. Nguyen and Dau then moved to Chelmsford, MA to raise their children. He had a long-lived career as an engineer, working the longest at AT&T, which later became Lucent Technologies, before he went into early retirement.

In his free time, Nguyen enjoyed watching science fiction movies and TV of all kinds, had an interest in watches and cars, and loved to discuss the stock market with his brothers. He was also very good at building with his hands and was constantly making home improvements around the house. Nguyen enjoyed family vacations, including to places like California, Washington, Texas, Florida, Maine, Canada, and Mexico; he also kept in touch with his naval class through their regular reunions.

Nguyen had been deeply loved and will be missed, but we find solace in knowing that he is now at peace with his beloved mother and father. Nguyen is predeceased by his parents, Gia Thai Pho and Minh Thi Nguyen.

He is survived by his wife Dau Nguyen-Pho, son Patrick; daughter Diana and her wife Ashley Rogers; daughter Kim; and son Daniel. His surviving siblings are his older brother Phuong and wife Thuy; older sister Lan and husband Hai; older brother Hung and wife Ba; older brother An and wife Huyen; younger brother Van and wife Kheo; younger sister Anh and husband Joseph; and younger brother Ngan, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family.

The family wishes to thank the ICU staff of Lahey Hospital and Medical Center for their attentive and compassionate efforts to care for Nguyen at the end of his life.

Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 4 to 7 PM, at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford. A Buddhist ceremony will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, starting at 9 AM, followed by a graveside service at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford at the Pho family resting grounds.

In lieu of flowers or physical gifts, donations in Nguyen Phos memory can be made to the American Stroke Association or Cha Tng Vn Temple, Lowell.
