Patricia A. Mahoney

–

Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Patricia A. (Sheehan) Mahoney, age 72, a longtime resident of Medford and most recently of North Chelmsford, passed away peacefully at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, on Thursday, September 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Michael W. Mahoney, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.

She was born in Somerville on July 11, 1954, and was the daughter of the late William and Alma (Renault) Sheehan. Trisha grew up in Cambridge, where she began dating her soon-to-be husband, Michael, at a young age. After a brief time in Arlington, they planted roots on Capen Street in Medford, where they raised their family. There, Trisha spent the majority of her time as a "professional referee," keeping her three boys and husband in line. She was a constant presence at St. Agnes School as a room mother and field trip chaperone and could always be found at the baseball fields watching her boys play. Trisha cherished sharing Sheehan family stories—funny memories of her dad, tales of growing up with her brothers, and the special connection she shared with her sisters, never missing an opportunity to remember her late sister, Joan. After 45 wonderful years in Medford, she and Michael moved to North Chelmsford.

Trisha worked many years as a Certified Nurses Assistant in several retirement homes, where her compassion and genuine love for helping others touched the lives of many families. Her favorite title, however, was Nana. She spent over 15 years taking care of Molly, Braeden, and Colin during the week, and when Daniel arrived, she made him an instant priority as well. Nana also quickly fell in love with her sweet "grand-pups” Fenway, Remy, Hope, and Millie. Her silliness left everyone wondering if she was actually the adult in charge, as she was always trying to make people laugh, even at her own expense. She somehow managed to figure out the sports schedule and loved posting up in her lawn chair or in the stands to cheer on her grandkids as often as possible.

From hidden lawn gnomes and flamingos to her gardens and the beach, Trisha was a true lover of nature. She enjoyed tending to her fruits and vegetables and took great pleasure in gifting her small but mighty harvest to her family. She took great comfort in baking cookies and brownies for her family. One time per year she would make her “limited edition” Irish bread, and at Christmas - her famous Paté competition with her brothers, always declaring herself the winner.

In addition to her devoted husband, Michael, Patricia is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Danielle Mahoney of North Chelmsford, Paul and Kelly Mahoney of Hudson, NH, and Daniel and Nicole Mahoney of Pelham, NH. She was the proud grandmother of Molly, Braeden, Colin, and Daniel. She is also survived by her siblings: John and Lynne Sheehan, Billy and Donna Sheehan, Robert and Rosemary Sheehan, and Kathy Sheehan and Chuck Dingee, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her beloved sister, Joan Sheehan, and her sister-in-law, Joanne Hennessey.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 8:30am to 10:00am at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 11:00am at St. Mary Parish, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford, following the visitation. Interment to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Patricia’s memory to The Jimmy Fund at the jimmyfund.org.
