On Saturday, February 17, Peter J. Saulis, Jr., born July 4, 1949, and longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away in his sleep at the age of 74. He was the devoted and loving husband of Mary Jo Podgorni Saulis, together for over 40 years, and the son of the late Peter J. and Constance M. Saulis.
He is remembered for his larger-than-life personality and his generosity of spirit. Always willing to lend an assisting hand to family, friends as well as strangers. A graduate of Chelmsford High School Class of 1967 where he held the title of Merrimack Valley League high scorer in basketball, he attained his bachelor's degree at Fitchburg State University after attending Northern Essex Community College where he won additional basketball honors. He was Director of the Winchendon and the Chelmsford Youth Centers in the 1970s and retired from the Boston Housing Authority in the early 2000s. A loyal friend, brother, cousin, and husband, he will be remembered for his quick wit, his kindness, and his love of music. (Cue the harmonicas)
In addition to his loving wife, Peter is also survived by his sister, Janet Rumson and her husband David Rumson of Boothbay Maine, his niece Kierstin Oliver of Portland Oregon, his nephew Jason Oliver of Glastonbury Connecticut, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
