R. Bruce Smith Obituary (1941 - 2014)

CHELMSFORD R. Bruce Smith, age 72, a longtime resident of Chelmsford died unexpectedly Monday, July 28, 2014 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was the beloved husband of Linda Jean (Gastonguay) Smith, with whom he would have celebrated 49 years of marriage in August. He was born in Bridgton, Maine on September 10, 1941, and was a son of the late Curtis B. and Alice (Verrill) Smith. He received his early education in Bridgton and earned his bachelors degree from Bentley University in Waltham. Prior to his retirement, Bruce was employed for 34 years as an accounting manager in the equipment division of Raytheon Company. He was a member of the Open Gate Garden Club in Chelmsford, the Tower Hill Botanical Garden Club in Boylston, and the Garden Club Federation of MA, of which he served on the Finance and Audit Committee. Bruce was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling with his wife. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Curtis Smith and his wife Laurie of Dracut; his two daughters, Michelle Smith and her wife Melissa Mercon-Smith of Hopedale and Leslie Day and her husband Brian of Hopkinton; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Smith of Dracut; his brother, Ronald Smith and his wife Sandra of Bridgton, ME; his sister, Joyce Stucki and her husband Paul of Winslow, ME; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD, on Tuesday, August 5th from 4 until 8 pm. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 6th at 10 oclock at All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Billerica Rd., Chelmsford. Interment in Heart Pond Cemetery in Chelmsford.
