Robert L. Gauthier

Robert L. Gauthier, 73, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his home. He was the beloved husband of Judith A. (Durant) Gauthier with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.

He was born in Lowell on January 9, 1951, and was the son of the late Walter and Jeanne (Lacerte) Gauthier.

Raised in Lowell, Robert attended Keith Academy and later graduated from Lowell State with a degree in Education. He enjoyed a long career as an agent with Prudential Insurance before finishing his professional journey with National Life Insurance.

Robert was an active member of the Lowell Boys Club Mens Health Club for many years and also participated in activities at the Lowell YMCA. He loved bowling with the Westford Senior Bowling League and taking long bike rides on the many scenic rail trails in the area. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren, proudly supporting them at their various sports and activities.

Roberts ultimate passion was connecting with people. Known for his gift of gab, he had a way of making every conversation memorableoften walking someone to their car and turning a quick goodbye into hours of engaging chatter. For those moments, we offer our heartfelt apologybut we know they were cherished by all who knew him.

In addition to his loving wife, Robert leaves his daughters, Marcie Comtois and her husband Joseph of Chelmsford and Stephanie Herlihy and her husband Mark of Nashua NH; and his four grandchildren, Keira Comtois, Abby Herlihy, Anthony Comtois, and Emma Herlihy.

Sadly, he is predeceased by his son Robert K. Gauthier.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to The Make a Wish Foundation of Massachusetts.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 9 am 11 am at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, December 2, at 11:30 am following the visitation. Interment to follow in St. Josephs Cemetery, Chelmsford.
