Ruth O. Cheney Obituary (1922 - 2014)

CHELMSFORD - Ruth O. (Brown) Cheney, 91 of Chelmsford passed away April 28 after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard W. Cheney of 62 years. She was born in Lowell and was the daughter of James T. and Jennie (Sutcliffe) Brown on October 25, 1922. She was a 1940 graduate of Lowell High School and later attended the Bradshaw Business School. She retired as Mortgage Coordinator at the Central Savings Bank and worked many years as Assistant Manager of the Credit Bureau of Greater Lowell and the family owned and operated Ednas Candy Shoppe. She was a lifetime member of the Matthews Memorial Church, a longtime member of Mount Pleasant Golf Club, and the Village Belles of the Red Hat Society. In her younger years, she was active in the Varnum School PTA and was a den mother for the local Cub Scout Pack. She and her husband loved to travel and did so extensively. She is survived by her three sons and their wives Richard W. and Meredith Cheney of Newport News, VA, J. Randall and Linda Cheney of Southborough, MA and Ogunquit, ME, and Peter H. and Karen Cheney of Stratham, NH. She is also survived by grandchildren Alex Cheney, Matthew Cheney, Melissa Cheney, Andrew Cheney, Jennifer (Cheney) Jankowski and Brynne (Cheney) Gauvin and great grandchildren Aiden, Isabel and Asher Gauvin. She is survived by her sister Alice of Chelmsford and a niece and nephews. A private graveside service was held on Tuesday May 5th with immediate family and Reverend Mack Hagins officiating.
