Shirley E. Flanagan Obituary (1924 - 2015)

NEWBURYPORT- Shirley Elizabeth (Anderson) Flanagan, 90, of Newburyport and formerly of Seabrook, NH and Dracut, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2015. She was the beloved wife of Joseph Patrick Flanagan to whom she has been happily married for 40 years. She was born in Billerica on December 16, 1924 and was a daughter of the late Edward O. and Amy Anderson. Shirley was raised in North Billerica, was a graduate of Billerica High School and attended secretarial school in Lowell. Prior to her retirement, Shirley was employed as an executive secretary by Massachusetts Electric /New England Electric for over 40 years, working in Lowell, Westboro, and North Andover. Shirley loved to travel, particularly on cruises, and dine at restaurants with her husband Joe. She always enjoyed and remembered the times she spent with her long-time girlfriends. Shirley liked to bowl, knit and cross-country ski and was an avid reader. She was devoted to her family who loved her so much. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her brother-in-law Forest Rogers of Beverly and her nieces and nephews; Robert Anderson and his wife Penny of Tewksbury, Paula McNiff and her husband Don of Lowell, Cynthia Mears and her husband Paul of Danvers, Gary Rogers and his wife Jill of Byfield, and Joyce Rogers of Beverly, and many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her siblings Robert Anderson, Paul Anderson, and Thelma Rogers. It being her wish, there will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held for the family at a future date in Pine Ridge Cemetery, 130 Billerica Rd, Chelmsford.
