With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Susan J. McArthur, 81, a longtime resident of Lexington, Chelmsford and Billerica, on Monday, September 28th, 2026.
She was born in Lexington on February 6th, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Earl and Sarah Outhet.
Susan enjoyed the good things in life: a nice glass of wine (or two), Corvette trips, her pets, and rooting for the Patriots every season. She brought warmth, humor, and authenticity wherever she went. For many years, she served as the Parish Administrator at the Church of Our Redeemer in Lexington, and after retirement, volunteered at the Seniors Center in Chelmsford, forming meaningful friendships and dedicating herself to supporting those communities.
Most of all, she loved being surrounded by the people she cared about. Susan shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, Doug, who preceded her in death. Though she deeply missed him, she carried his memory every day and found comfort in the many cherished memories they created together.
The greatest joy in Susan's life was her family. She leaves behind her devoted daughter, Kerin Erickson, whom she loved dearly, and ‘favorite’ son-in-law, Carl. She was an especially proud ‘Mimi’ to her two grandsons, Carl Douglas and Connor, whose accomplishments, laughter, and love brightened her days. Nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than spending time with them.
She leaves behind a circle of family and friends whom she held close to her heart. In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, those with her in her final moments included her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Susan and Paul Donovan, her beloved nephew and his wife, Marty and Linda Jones, and her dear friends Sharon Erickson and Martha Daly, whom were like family and shared a special bond with her through the years. Susan is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Susan was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Gill.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to AnneMarie Dewey and Keri Ross, whose compassionate care, kindness, and support brought comfort and peace during her final days.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 6th, 2026, from 10 am – 11:30 am at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A brief service will follow at 12 pm at the funeral home. Interment following in Heart Pond Cemetery, Chelmsford, for friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s name may be made to Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org).
