Theodore M. "Ted" Winther Obituary (1945

Lt. Colonel (ret.) Theodore Ted M. Winther, 75, passed away peacefully after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He is survived by his wife of 10 years Laurie, his sons; Tim and his wife Kate, Ben and his wife Cindy, Patrick and his wife Laura, his grandchildren: Dominic, Angelina, Jefferson, Lillian and Elsa, his nephews; Chis and his wife Gabby, Peter and his wife Angela, He also leaves behind his brother Anker and his wife Joyce. Ted was born in Englewood, NJ on May 7, 1945 and was the son of the late Howard and Eleanor (Maybury) Winther. He grew up in Elma, NY and attended Iroquois Central High School where he was active in track and field and the school band playing bassoon in the Erie County Music Educators' Association. After graduating from the University of Rochester with a BA in English, Ted joined the Air Force in 1968 where spent 20 years living in California, Okinawa, Japan and Korea before settling in Massachusetts. He retired from the Air Force in 1988 with decorations for Defense Meritorious Service medal with 3 Oak Leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation medal with 2 Oak Leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit award, Korean Defense Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal and six ribbons. After retiring from the Air Force, Ted worked at Raytheon Company for 19 years. In retirement he enjoyed model railroading, genealogy, playing the bassoon, swimming, triathlons and spending time at his house on Lake Champlain in North Hero, Vermont. We remember and miss you in many different ways, special words, a place, a shared joke, when the sun sets and rises, looking at the moon and stars, every day and the most on special days, each us in our own way.
