Truman E. McCray Obituary (1936 - 2022)

Truman E. McCray, age 85, a longtime resident of Lowell, MA, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Saturday, January 1, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Truman was born in Marion, SC, on January 25, 1936, the son of the late Truman E. McCray Sr. and Janie Juleese Smith McCray. Truman attended elementary school at Marion County Training School and later attended junior high school at PS 164 in New York when he moved there for a short time. He later returned to Marion and attended Johnakin High School in Marion. Truman attended Howard University on a full scholarship but decided to move back to New York, where he completed his college education, obtaining an accounting degree from NYU. He met and married Priscilla Bradley in 1958, and from this union, four children were born. After this union ended, Truman married Gloria Pickney in 1976, and from this union, one child was born. Truman worked as an accountant for several companies, such as Pose, Digital, and Washington Inventory Service, before starting his own company, Mr. T and Friends, a car detailing service. He retired in 2000. Truman loved golf and basketball and was a diehard Yankees fan. Truman is survived by his children: Debra Janie McCray of Carthage NC, Darren Elliot McCray of Carthage NC, Devlin Truman McCray of Chelmsford MA, Dawn Priscilla McCray Holland (Mark), Brian Jon McCray (Rebecca) of Chelmsford MA, four sisters: Miriam Smith Kennedy of NY, NY, Diana McCray of Washington DC, Amanda McCray Lewis (Maceo), and Laura Newman, two brothers: Truhan McCray (Diane) and Marshall McCray, ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Helen Luvenia McCray. Funeral services and interment will be held privately. Funeral services and interment will be held privately.
