William J. 'Bill' Miller Jr. Obituary (1936 - 2015)

CHELMSF0RD William J. Bill Miller, Jr. age 79, a longtime resident of Chelmsford died unexpectedly Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Doris E. (Vradenburg) Miller, to whom he was married for 57 years. He was born in Schenectady, NY on May 31, 1936 and was a son of the late William J. and Irene Rose (Suminski) Miller. He received his early education in Schenectady schools and was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Schenectady. He earned a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY and a masters degree in Logistics Management from the Air Force Institute of Technology in Dayton, OH. He also held the distinction of being a Certified Professional Logistician. Bill served his country for 22 years in the United States Air Force before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was stationed at Long Island, NY, Florida, England, Greece, California, Ohio, Vietnam, Texas, Belgium, and Massachusetts (Hanscom Air Force Base). Following his retirement from the Air Force, he was employed as a logistics engineer by Raytheon Company in Sudbury and then Dynamics Research Corporation in Andover. He was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Chelmsford, where he sang in the churchs choir and chaired several committees. He was also a member of Sigma Iota Epsilon, member and past vice president of the Society of Logistics Engineers, a member and past president of the Vandenberg Saddle Club and the Parent Teacher Organization of San Antonio, Texas, and a member of the Masons in Brussels, Belgium. Bill enjoyed cooking, boating on the Mohawk River, deer hunting, deep sea fishing, and going to shows and on cruises with Doris. He also enjoyed coaching football and basketball, but above all he cherished the time spent in the company of his loving family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James and Sharon Miller of Clifton Park, NY; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Andrew Braks of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren, Nathan Braks, William Braks, Emma Braks, Madeline Miller, and Charlotte Miller; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Patricia Miller of Saratoga, NY; his cousin, Susan Gwiadowski of Port Charlotte, FL; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Wednesday from 4 until 7 pm. His Funeral Service will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 242 Boston Rd., Chelmsford, MA 01824 on Thursday at 10:30 am. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY on a day and time to be announced on Tuesday on the funeral home website.
