Obituary for Daniel Leo Joyce Jr. Esq.

WESTFORD – Daniel Leo Joyce, Jr., Esq., age 80, a resident of Westford and former resident of Acton and Woburn died Sunday, January 4, 2015 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Beverly F. (Hubert) Joyce, to whom he was married for 54 years. He was born in Woburn on May 14, 1934. The son of the late Dr. Daniel L. and Mary E. (Logan) Joyce, Dan received his early education at St. Charles Grammar School in Woburn and was a graduate of New Hampton School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Boston College and his Juris Doctorate degree from Suffolk Law School. He proudly served his country, as a corporal, in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1961. Daniel was also an Eagle Scout. Daniel was an attorney in Woburn for many years and served as a Massachusetts State Representative for Woburn from 1968-1976. He was a member of Nabnasset Lake Country Club in Westford, the American Legion, Post 0462 and the Lions Club. Dan was also a member, and served on the board of directors, of the Massachusetts Thoroughbred Breeders Association. He received the TOBA Award for outstanding thoroughbred ownership and breeding. Dan loved golfing and horses, but his greatest joy in life was his grandchildren. He spent countless hours attending all of their activities and events. He was their greatest supporter and they were his biggest fans. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Daniel L. Joyce, III and his wife Ingrid of Acton; Colleen Bottari and Ed Gardner of Chelmsford; Patricia and her husband Fred Wendt of Tyngsborough; Michael Joyce and his wife Shelley of Burlington; and Kathleen and her husband Steven Michaud of Tyngsborough. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Hannah, Daniel IV, and Christopher Joyce; Stephanie, Stephen, Brian, and Jillian Bottari; Cassandra Callahan, Evan and Logan Wendt; Chandler Joyce; Chris, Nolan, Thomas, and Jack Michaud; and two great-grandchildren; Brandon and Ryan; a sister Maureen and her husband John Noble of Winchester, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters Sheila Greenlaw and Brenda Joyce. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 o’clock at St. Irene Catholic Church, 181 East St., Carlisle, MA. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery, Westford, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O.
