Obituary for George E. Vanderpool

George E.  Vanderpool
George Edward Vanderpool, born March 2nd 1926, passed away of natural causes under the care of his loving daughter, Gail on October 14, 2015. George was predeceased by his wife Helen Jean (Milonas) Vanderpool in1984.

George was born in Nashville Tennessee. He proudly served in the US Navy during World War II, as a Ship’s Cook on Boat Squandron 21. He transferred to Massachusetts during the war and met his wife Helen roller-skating in Waltham.

Mr. Vanderpool went on to become a patent maker for The Polaroid Corporation of Waltham for 30 years. George followed Dr. Land to Roland Institute of Science in Cambridge. He manufactured many unique designs and inventions out of plastic and wood.

George was a talented woodcrafter who enjoyed turning bowls, carving birds and designing and crafting furniture. It was said of George that “He was the reason God created wood.”

Mr. Vanderpool was a communicant of Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA, for many years. He donated his time to Grace Chapel by building many fine additions to the church including the pastor’s podium and service desk.

George leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Audrey; his daughter Gail Boutin and her husband Dan of Lowell, MA; his two sons Gordon Vanderpool and his wife Sandra of Hillsboro, NH and Grant Vanderpool and his wife Kathy of Parrish, FL. George also leaves behind two loving grandchildren, Holly DeWald & Thomas Vanderpool and four great grandchildren, Lora, Emily, Nathan and Braeden.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation to be held on Sunday October 25, 2015 from 2 until 5 PM in the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford. Interment will be private.
