Mary Jean  Willis
Mary Jean (McCarthy) Willis, 83, a resident of Westford and former resident of Bedford, passed away at her Westford residence surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with lymphoma. She was the beloved wife of Robert W. Willis of Westford for 62 years who survives her and loved her dearly.

Born in Concord, NH on August 26, 1932, Mary was a daughter of the late Cornelius and Estella (Avery) McCarthy.

Mary received a BA in Sociology from Regis College in 1954 and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Middlesex Community College in 1980. She was employed by Waltham-Weston Hospital for 17 years.
Mary was an active volunteer at the Westford town and school libraries as well as LIRA. She served as a Eucharistic minister at her community churches and Emerson Hospital.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her children, Steven Willis and his wife Elissa Freud of Cambridge, MA. Karen Willis and her husband John Downing of Chelmsford, MA and Susan Fox of Costa Mesa, CA as well as her beloved grandchildren, Rebecca, Jillian, Sarah, Brad, Alex, Sydney and Emma.

Mary’s family wished to thank the staff at Massachusetts General Hospital and Emerson Hospital for the abundance of care given to Mary over the last year. Your kindness and compassion were deeply appreciated.

A Visitation will be held on Friday November 13, 2015 from 4 until 7 PM in the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Saturday in St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, 107 North Main St., Westford, MA. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Burial will take place at 11:30 AM in Newton Cemetery, 791 Walnut St., Newton, MA. For those who wish, and in lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Paul Center, 39 Concord Rd., Chelmsford, MA, 01824, a place where her grandson, Brad has spent many happy days over the years or to the charity of one’s choice.
