Obituary for
Martin J Flynn
Martin J. Flynn, 83, of Ocala, Florida passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, August 30, 2016 at Lowell General Hospital after a short period of declining health. He was surrounded by his loving family with support from the staff in the Intensive Care Unit.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania during the Great Depression, he was the son of the late Martin J. and Elizabeth M. (Long) Flynn.
At age 8, Marty was deeply influenced by the attack on Pearl Harbor and the entry of the United States into the war. Much later, he had a letter published in the Lowell Sun newspaper about his recollections of that tragic time, and he enjoyed watching classic WWII movies.
Marty worked during the time when television was replacing radio, and bragged about installing nearly every TV antenna in the Wyoming Valley. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the time of the Korean War and reminisced about how he enjoyed Greece.
Marty relocated to Massachusetts and became a manufacturer’s representative and successful entrepreneur with the founding of his Corporation Marty Flynn Associates. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Chelmsford. He became a life-long Red Sox fan and also enjoyed bowling, golfing, hot dogs (especially Abe’s in Wilkes-Barre), and traveling back and forth to spend the winter in Florida, where he relocated to nine years ago.
Marty was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Joan A. Oko , brothers Thomas J. Flynn and Joseph C. Flynn, his niece Sharon F. Brubaker, and his nephew Ronald Milgate.
Marty is survived by his four children: Patricia A. Cree (Flynn) and her husband David, Michael J. Flynn, Kathleen M. Huddleston (Flynn) and her husband Douglas, Karen A. Weilbrenner (Flynn) and her husband Robert, grandchildren Michelle Biasella, Allison Cree, Sean Huddleston, Sara Huddleston, Nicholas Weilbrenner, Matthew Weilbrenner, and great grandchild Liliana Biasella.
