Obituary for Edgar P "Ed" Dana

Edgar P "Ed"  Dana
CHELMSFORD– Edgar P. "Ed" Dana, of Chelmsford and formerly of Lowell, died on November 25, 2016.

Born in Lowell on December 10, 1932, he was the son of the late G. Russell Dana and Leslie (Pullen) Dana. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1950 and from Burdett College in 1952.

Ed is survived by his wife Marilyn (Watt) Dana, a daughter June (Dana) Medina and her husband Vinicio "Vini" Medina, daughter-in-law Marcia C. Dana, six grandchildren; Adam (Caitlin) Medina, Sara (John) Wickens, Anne Medina, Evan Dana, Abigail (Scott) Rice, and Megan (T.J.) Goddard, and five great-grandchildren; Joshua Medina, Aria Medina, Savannah Medina, Gabriel Medina and Margaret Rice. He was also the loving Grandpa to Kiara and Noah Beairsto-Medina. Ed also leaves a brother-in-law Charles E. Watt as well as nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his beloved son Gregory A. Dana in 2012, as well as his brother George and sister Phyllis (Dana) Wilcox.

A veteran of the United States Army, Ed served in Berlin, Germany during the Korean War. At age 23, Ed began working for U.S. Gypsum Co. where he spent 18 years, leaving in 1967 as Boston and N.E. District Manager. In 1968 he and his wife formed Danco Building Supply which they owned until 1975 when they founded Dana Wallboard Supply, Inc. Ed remained President of the Corporation until he and Marilyn both retired in 1995.

He was a member of Christ Church United in Lowell and was a parishioner and member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Chelmsford. He served on the Board of Directors and as President and Treasurer of the Town of Chelmsford Scholarship Fund from 1964 until 1994. He was also a member of the Chelmsford Historical Society and the Lowell Whistler House. When time permitted, Ed enjoyed going fishing.

Ed was no stranger to illness over the years, but had great faith and a strong love of family and labor.

Visitation on Wednesday from 4 until 7 pm at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10 o'clock at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 242 Boston Rd., Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.

Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
