Shirley A. (Taylor) Fletcher, a longtime resident of Chelmsford passed away peacefully at the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley. She was eighty three years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Lester Fletcher to whom she was married over fifty years at the time of his death in 2010.

Shirley was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Wesley and Evelyn (Johnson) Taylor. She was a graduate of Chelmsford High School and was employed for a number of years for the town of Chelmsford as a secretary, working in the Adam's Library.

A talented singer, Shirley had a wonderful voice. In her younger years, she was broadcast on the radio, and sang for the U.S. troops in WWII. A woman of many talents, she always enjoyed crafts, especially quilting, needlepoint and embroidery. In her later years, she spent time at the Chelmsford Senior Center. Shirley spent her weekends at the racetrack where she and her husband enjoyed watching their horses race . More than anything, Shirley loved the time spent with her children and grandchildren. Shirley will be remembered for her generosity, fantastic sense of humor and her love of family.

Sadly, Shirley was predeceased by her brother Wesley Taylor.

Shirley is survived by her children, Gail Stevens of North Chelmsford, Brian Fletcher of Chelmsford and Susan Hawthorne and her husband Tom of Sanford, ME and her daughter-in-law, Yvonne Fletcher of Chelmsford. She was the loving grandmother of Scott and his wife Kim, Kevin and his wife Terri, Jeff and his wife Aubrey, Brian and his wife Stacy, Kevin and his wife Natalie, Anthony, Steven, and Kim and her husband Zach, along with ten great-grandchildren. Shirley also leaves her brother Ronald Taylor, her brother in law Erwin Fletcher, and her treasured cat Snoopy.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, February 20th from 4-7pm in the BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February, 21st at 12:30pm in the funeral home with Rev. Rich Knight officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
