Obituary for Faye M. Yates (Hobbs)

Faye M. Yates (Hobbs)
CHELMSFORD- Faye Maryland (Hobbs) Yates, 87, died peacefully at home Wednesday, February 21, 2018, from complications of COPD, surrounded by her loving family.

Faye was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 26, 1930, the second daughter of Harold and Viola Hobbs. Faye was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Stuart G. Yates, who passed away July 3, 1989.

As a young woman she worked and volunteered at several hospitals in the Indianapolis area, including the maternity hospital. She was employed by AT&T/Bell as an operator for several years. After taking time off to raise her family, she returned to work at New England Keyboard Corporation, where she held a variety of titles and made many lifelong friends.

Faye had many hobbies throughout her life. For many years she was an active antiques collector, buying and selling and she was an absolute artist when it came to her knitting and macramé creations which were often extremely complex and elaborate. Faye and Stu traveled extensively both domestically and internationally. Faye enjoyed swimming and boating at her summer home on Lake view in Tyngsboro.

For many years Faye and Stu were avid snowmobilers who, with a large group of friends, traveled and would snowmobile throughout the region. In her later years as COPD curtailed some of her mobility, Faye enjoy playing computer games, was an avid reader, and an excellent cook, who graciously hosted every holiday dinner. Faye was also a part of a large online community. Most of all, Faye enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren .

Faye is survived by and will be deeply missed by her children, Mark Yates of Tyngsboro, Robert Yates of Tyngsboro, Scott Yates of Lowell, and Brian Yates of Lowell. Her sister Joanne Hemmelgarn of Beech Grove, Indiana and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Stuart Yates.

It being her request, funeral services were held privately. Arrangements under the care of BLAKE CHELMSFORD FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD, MA 01824.
