Before the business and legal issues of the estate can be pursued, it will be necessary to obtain certified copies of the death certificate. You can order them from the Funeral Director when making arrangements. If you require additional copies,you may order them directly from the city or town clerk where the death occurred.
Usually 30 days after a death, the death certificates are available in the city or town where the person resided. It is always better to order a few more than what you think you will need. While most agencies will only accept certified death certificates, you will want to ask if they will accept a photocopy instead.
