Obituary for Harry W A Vandermeer

CHELMSFORD – Harry W.A. Vandermeer, age 84, a longtime resident of Chelmsford died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at his home following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Astrid M.J. (Veltman)Vandermeer, to whom he was married for 56 years.

He was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on September 16, 1930, and was the son of the late Willem and An (Meyer) Vandermeer. He received his education in The Netherlands.

Prior to his retirement, Harry was a physicist and was the owner of Optical System Technology, Inc.

He was an active parishioner of St. Mary Parish in Chelmsford.

Harry was an avid reader and he loved to travel and summering in Maine.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Jos Neuhaus and her husband Theo of The Netherlands, his brother-in-law, Boudewijn Veltman and his wife Rita Hoeksema of Amsterdam, his sister-in-law, Ursula Fouwels and her husband Joop of Amsterdam; and many other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, on Friday from 4 until 7 pm.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 o’clock at St. Mary Church in Chelmsford.

Interment will be private.
