Obituary for Walt G Fitzgerald

Walt G Fitzgerald
CHELMSFORD - Walter G. "Walt" Fitzgerald, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away unexpectedly at Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday, September 25, 2017 at the age of 69. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Wright) Fitzgerald with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in February.

He was born in Cambridge on April 2, 1948 and was a son of the late Walter G. and Phyllis (Durgin) Fitzgerald.

Walt grew up in Woburn and was a graduate of Woburn High School. He and Barbara met through mutual friends and were married on February 24, 1968 in Lexington. They began in Concord and after moves across several states, came back to Massachusetts and chose to settle in Chelmsford. Walt owned his own General Contracting Business and later on began a successful career in real estate. His philosophy was "You will never work a day in your life if you love what you do". Walt was a deeply thoughtful man who gave generously of his time and resources to anyone in need - making a lasting impact on all those that came to know him. His selfless care for others was rooted in his quiet and deep faith in Jesus Christ. Walt loved New Hampshire where he and his family enjoyed summers together in the Lakes Region. Walt especially enjoyed his time as "Papa" to his cherished grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Walt is survived by his children; Bonnie Fitzgerald Smith and her husband Duncan of Boston, Mark Fitzgerald and his wife Kristy of Ipswich, Amy Daley of Chelmsford, and Erin Palmesano and her husband Mick of Quincy, and grandchildren; Brooke, Peyton, Adrian, Chloe, Austin, Liam, Brandon, Caden and Max. He was predeceased by his sister Cindy Anstey. The family is encouraging those that would like to make a gift do so in Walt’s memory to The Transplant Foundation of New England (www.transplantfoundationofnewengland.org)

Visiting hours Friday evening from 4 to 8pm at the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9 o'clock at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be private.
